GOODBYE TO THE VALLEY OF MEXICO

Approximately seven centuries ago, a Nahua tribe founded Mexico Tenochtitlan on an island in the lacustrine zone of the valley of Mexico. They had been made a pilgrimage for more than two centuries, after leaving their old home, Aztlan, following the design of their gods to form the greatest empire known in Mesoamerica. With the Spanish Conquest, the old settlement became the political center of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, taking its name from the people who had founded it and who would later extend it to the independent country: the Mexicas

For five centuries, Mexico City has been a metropolis that concentrates the political, economic and cultural power of the Mexican State. During that time, the depredation of the lake area has been a constant and illusory project of modernity that, threatens in the short time, the survival of more than 20 million people living today in the Valley of Mexico and more than 200 species of animals and plants.

“Goodbye to the Valley of Mexico” its built form an imaginative proposal that recaptures the ancient pilgrim spirit of the Aztecs: let us all go. Abandon the Valley as a parallel exercise of environmental congruence, radical decentralization, mythical inspiration towards the recovery of the "atl" and imaginative enthusiasm fo the definition of the Mexican as an identity in movement.
